The Rotary Club of Germantown will be hosting the opening for the summer of the Youth Education Pond at 7250 Wolf River Blvd. on May 7 from noon to 3 p.m.
“Everyone is welcome,” said Jerry Klein. “Bring your picnic lunch and we will have drinks.”
Only children 15 years old and under are allowed to fish the pond. Germantown Park Rangers will be on hand to teach fishing and offer tips about conservation.
“You can bring your own fishing gear or we will supply same,” Klein said. “We will have bait available.”
Mayor Mike Palazzolo and Vice Mayor Mary Ann Gibson plan to attend the event.
The Germantown Rotary and city leaders broke ground at 4-acre pond in the Wolf River Nature Area in the summer of 2017.
The Rotary Club raised the money for the project, which included $1 million for phase one.
Germantown has 30 lakes and ponds available for fishing. Most have bream, bass and catfish. Some are stocked for special events.
