5 Essential Items You Should Always Keep in Your Car

You should always store tools and items you may need in an accident or emergency in your car. Ensure you and your vehicle are ready for anything with these essential items you should always keep in your car.

Jumper Cables

We’ve all had those boneheaded moments where we leave the headlights or indoor light on, and the battery is dead the next time we try to use the car. Car batteries are more reliable than they used to be, but they can still fail at times, and you don’t want to end up stuck with a dead battery and no way to jumpstart it.

Every car should have a pair of jumper cables in the trunk for emergencies. You can find small, easy-to-store cables that don’t take up space, and you won’t even notice them until you need them.

Spare Tire and Kit

As carefully as you may drive, things sometimes happen through no fault of your own. A flat tire is dangerous to drive on, so if your car sustains one, you should pull over and replace it with the spare you keep.

Most new cars come with spare tires and changing kits underneath the trunk, and changing one is relatively straightforward. Don’t just call a tow truck or AAA; change the tire yourself and save the money!

Lock Picking Tools

We may not like to admit it, but most of us have locked our keys in our car at some point or another. It’s not our proudest moment. However, if you keep a set of lock picking tools in your vehicle at all times, you can remedy the problem without spending money on an expensive locksmith.

It’s easy to find car lock picking tools, and there are many to choose from. But your best bet is typically a car door Slim Jim and a car door wedge. You’ll be able to open up your car and get your keys with minimal effort.

First-Aid Kit

Accidents happen all the time, and if there are accidents on the road or highway, they can be life threatening. Be prepared for whatever happens by keeping a first-aid kit in your car. That way, you’ll be able to respond should the worst occur.

Hopefully, you never have to use it, but it could save a life someday. At the very least, it’s good to have it on hand so that you always know you have one nearby in your car.

Duct Tape

Possibly the most used tool for any handyman is an old-fashioned roll of duct tape. Sometimes, things go wrong in a car, whether it’s a leak or a loose part, and there’s not much else you can do but stick some duct tape on it and get it into the shop.

Keeping a roll of duct tape on hand is always a good idea for minor and temporary repairs. It could be the difference between getting stranded on the side of the road and driving to the auto shop!

Even if you’re a safe and cautious driver, you never know what can happen on the roads. But if you get these essential items that you should always keep in your car, you’ll be ready for whatever situation arises on the road.
