Back Yard Burgers on West Street catches fire


The Germantown Fire Department responded to a fire at the West Street Back Yard Burgers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Upon arrival, fire and heavy smoke were seen coming from the vent on the roof of the restaurant, which is located at 2110 West Street
The Germantown Police Department evacuated the building prior to the arrival of fire crews.
The fire was contained to the vent system and was brought under control within 19 minutes.
A total of six fire engines, a truck company, two ambulances and several staff and support vehicles were on the scene.
Collierville and Bartlett Fire Departments provided mutual aid.
Fire investigators determined that the fire was caused by a grease buildup in the grill vent system.
The estimated cost of damage for the fire is approximated at $100,000.
Restaurant officials said the business is “working to make repairs and plans to reopen in the near future.”
