Residents encourage to ‘Fill the Fountain’ this holiday season

Residents interested in leaving an indelible mark on the city this holiday season are in luck.
Leadership Germantown has announced that around 100 bricks are still available on the city’s Fountain of Youth.
For a donation, residents can honor a loved one, celebrate an organization or preserve the family’s name with an engraved brick at the Germantown landmark.
In an effort to unite and connect the city to its history, Leadership Germantown is celebrating its 20th year by restoring a city landmark.
The organization is working to bring the Saddle Creek Fountain back to its former glory. It has been relocated to Civic Plaza adjacent to the Pickering Memorial Center in the heart of Old Germantown.
Donations for the 4-inch-by-8-inch bricks are $75 and will preserve a piece of the city’s history. For more information, go to
Leadership Germantown was founded in 1996 with the intent to develop well-informed, effective leaders in the community. The group’s 400-plus graduates serve on numerous community boards and government commissions.
• Residents can also donate to another “fountain” by contributing to the Germantown Education Foundation’s Fill the Fountain of Knowledge campaign, a program that offers residents the option of donating funds through the monthly water bill.
Currently, there are 198 reoccurring donors and 103 one time donors to the program. More than $4,000 was recently collected by GEF at the city’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting.
