City’s jobless rate still lowest in county

The jobless rate in Collierville and Germantown remained among the lowest in Tennessee last month.

According to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, both municipalities had a rate of 4.2 percent, four tenths of a percentage point below the state average.

The municipalities tied Murfreesboro for the fifth lowest rate in Tennessee.

Germantown’s rate was up two tenths of a point from the previous month but remained the lowest in Shelby County, tied with Collierville.

The city’s labor force is estimated at 19,770, with 840 residents having filed for unemployment.

Germantown has had the lowest jobless rate in Shelby County virtually all year.

The rate in Memphis stood still last month at 6.3 percent, the highest in Tennessee among cities with at least 25,000 residents.

Spring Hill had the lowest unemployment rate in Tennessee at 3.7 percent.

Bartlett’s rate was 4.5 percent.
