Amateur radio ‘Field Day’ is June 25-26 in Germantown

The City of Germantown Fire Department is sponsoring a 24-hour emergency operations exercise that will be held at the C.O. Franklin Park, located behind the Pickering Center at 7771 Poplar Pike in Germantown.

Germantown’s Nashoba Amateur Radio Club will be the host organization for the event. Operations will begin at 12 p.m. Saturday and continue through 3 p.m.

Ham Radio operators and emergency response crews from surrounding areas will join the Red Cross, CERT, the U.S. Coast Guard, Fayette County Tactical and Shelby County Tactical.

“The Germantown Fire Department is excited to serve as the sponsor of Field Day and are proud these organizations chose Germantown to serve as their Field Day operation headquarters,” said Germantown Fire Chief John Selberg.

“To our knowledge, this is the first time all these organizations have joined together on such a large scale to showcase ham radio and the capabilities that hams bring to the table when emergencies strike,” said Chief Selberg.

Families and fans of first responders will enjoy this opportunity to see the men, women and machines that provide public safety up close.
