New trash contractor will start ahead of schedule

Germantown’s new sanitation contractor, Waste Pro of Tennessee, will begin collecting trash, recyclables and yard debris on June 1, one full month ahead of the original schedule.

The Germantown Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted Monday for Waste Pro’s early start date and the early conclusion of a contract with Inland, the current provider for the city.

Over the last week, city administration and legal staff negotiated with the two providers in an attempt to address recent service issues.

“Waste Pro has assured us that they can come in on June 1 and provide a high level of service,” said City Administrator Patrick Lawton. “We owe it to our customers to do everything we can to alleviate the issues with trash collection and this was a solution that was favorable for all parties, Inland, Waste Pro and the city.”

Germantown sanitation customers will receive additional information about Waste Pro cart delivery and collection in the coming weeks.

The sanitation collection rate will not change in June.

Customers will continue to pay the fiscal year 2016 rate. However, a price adjustment is expected to be approved during the budget approval process to take effect on July 1.

The city will continue to hold Inland responsible for sanitation collection through May 31.

Customers whose trash, recyclables or yard debris are not collected as scheduled are asked to report a missed collection on the day following their scheduled collection day.

Reports can be recorded online at, by emailing or by calling (901) 757-7263.
