Late payment relief available to utility customers

The Germantown Board of Mayor and Aldermen recently gave final approval on an ordinance that allows water customers who have paid their bill on-time for a period of 12 consecutive months, the opportunity to request a waiver for the late fee charged for one delayed payment.

“We have many great customers who consistently pay on time each month, then one month the bill gets lost in the stack of junk mail or they are out of town when the payment is due and they get stuck with a late fee,” said Bo Mills, Public Works Director. “This new rule provides some flexibility for these customers.”

The process is simple; customers requesting the waiver fee should send a written request asking that the late fee be waived. Requests may be mailed with the water bill payment or emailed to

The new ordinance is the result of a request initiated by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and brings Germantown in-line with common fee-waiver practices of many other utility service providers, including MLG&W.
