City’s jobless rate lowest in county

The jobless rate in Germantown remained among the lowest in Tennessee in November and the lowest in Shelby County.
According to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the city’s November rate of 4.2 percent is sixth tenths of a percent point lower than the same time a year ago.
It is also the fifth lowest rate in the state among municipalities with a population of 25,000 or more.
At 4.5 percent, Collierville had the second lowest rate in Shelby County. Bartlett’s rate was 5.1 percent last month. At 6.9 percent, Memphis had the highest rate in the state. Shelby County’s rate is 6.4 percent and represents 27,320 jobless residents.
Tennessee’s rate of 5.6 percent remained the same.
The national unemployment rate is 5 percent.
Germantown’s labor force was estimated at 19,210 residents, 800 of whom were unemployed in November.
