The Cordova Wolves got back to their winning ways Friday by beating Houston 41-20. Cordova suffered their first loss of the season earlier this month to White Station and are now 8-1 after Friday’s home win.
The Wolves jumped on Houston early, scoring on a 26-yard pass from Devin Coleman to Jarrius Anderson. Coleman would finish the game with 283 passing yards and three touchdowns. He completed 75 percent of his passes and only threw one interception.
Houston answered with a 7-yard red zone run courtesy of Emmett Whitaker. However, the Mustangs missed the extra point kick.
Up 7-6 going into the second quarter, Cordova struck again on a 1-yard touchdown run from Harold Lacy, who finished the game with 58 rushing yards on 10 carries. After that, Coleman hooked up with Anderson again for an 18-yard touchdown before halftime.
Down 21-6 heading into the third quarter, the Mustangs scored on a 85-yard run from Carson Blackfan. The junior running back finished the game with 217 rushing yards. He averaged 14 yards per carry.
However, Cordova would answer with two more touchdowns before the fourth quarter. The first came on another short run from Lacy. The second happened when Shemar Collier broke free for a 70-yard scamper. That was the lone carry for the junior wide receiver.
Both teams would trade points in the final quarter and the Wolves would get the win.
Cordova finished the game with 303 passing yards and 169 yards on the ground. Houston gained 40 passing yards and 290 rushing yards.
The Wolves will play at Whitehaven this Friday. Houston (1-8) will host White Station.
