The Germantown Athletic Club will soon get a $1.45 million facelift. The city’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen has approved the first phase of the club’s renovation project, which will be fully funded by revenue generated by the club.
The club, which has more than 13,000 members, will see improvements in the customer service area, the children’s area spin class room and meeting rooms. Significant improvements to HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and electrical systems will also be completed during phase one of the project.
Last January, the board approved a professional services agreement with Fleming Architects to design the renovations for the club. When the design work for all three phases of the project was nearing completion, a review of the construction documents by the Fire Marshall’s Office resulted in a request to have the club’s entire fire protection system upgraded. So, a design supplement was required for the extra work, which was approved in May.
