City staff says water safe despite odor

After reports from residents of an unusual odor in the city’s water, Germantown Public Works Department is assuring residents that there is no health risk associated with the odor. Hydrants near each report location were opened to allow the water to flow and clear out.
“Through normal use within the system, it will take several days to change out the water in the 210 miles of water line. There are no health risks…just a bit of an unpleasant smell,” says Bo Mills, Public Services Director.
Customers with a noticeable unpleasant odor in their water should contact Public Works at (901) 757-7350.
