Whitehaven still unbeaten, Red Devils see an end to 2012

Whitehaven standout Mark Dodson takes advantage of a block Friday night to find the end zone for the third time against Germantown.

MEMPHIS — The 2012 season is over for the Germantown Red Devils.

The Red Devils conclude the year 9-4 after suffering a 52-7 defeat to the undefeated Whitehaven Tigers tonight at Whitehaven Football Stadium.

The Tigers (13-0) advance to the State Semifinals for a rematch of last year’s semifinals with Mt. Juliet. Whitehaven started to set up a date with Mt. Juliet with two early touchdowns from standout running back Mark Dodson. The Ole Miss signee scored on runs of 23 and 39 yards.

The Tigers were up 19-0 before the end of the first quarter when quarterback Patrick Smith faked a handoff to Dodson and sprinted 54 yards toward the end zone.

Whitehaven kept the pressure on Germantown in the second quarter when Smith dropped back and hit wide out Gerald Perry for a 15-yard touchdown.

Then Tiger Darrius Sims made the score 32-0 when be caught a punt in traffic near the Whitehaven sideline. The senior speedster cut back toward the middle of the field and made one defender miss with a juke move for a 62 yard score.

Whitehaven went ahead 39-0 when Smith scored on a short run.

The Red Devils kept fighting and on fourth down and 15 yards to go quarterback Sam Martin dropped back and hit wide out Justin Hunter to the 2 yard line. From there Germantown put the ball into the hands of Justin Roberson for the touchdown to make the score 39-7 before halftime.

Whitehaven iced the game in the second half with two more Dodson scores. The senior running back scored on a 21 yard run and a 40-yard over-the-shoulder catch.
